Arielle Francois: Where you waited for me.
Combining dance, fashion and puppet design Where you waited for me. is a new multimedia dance performance by Arielle Francois celebrating Afro-American and Afro-Caribbean culture through Catherine Flon’s legacy. As a first-generation Haitian artist, Arielle uses her work to honor Black joy and empower women, weaving hope and the mundane magic of their lives into every aspect of her art.

Junior Domingos: Amalgam
Merging the rich traditions of Capoeira and Samba with contemporary movement, Amalgam is a new dance theater piece by Junior Domingos. Through innovative use of chairs within the traditional circle, the artist redefines these cultural roots, creating a dynamic space for both celebration and transformation.

Lisa Kusanagi & Osmani Tellez: PINKY PROMISES
PINKY PROMISES is a physical portrayal of the futile battle to break free from the palindromic cycle of relationships. In a duet, approaching ideas with childlike playfulness and curiosity, Lisa and Osmani investigate and explore expectations, hopes, desires, pleasures, and disappointments in the subject of interhuman relationships beyond an archetypical love and romance setting.

Our Human Years: A Flower In the Swamp
A Flower In the Swamp, weaves together music, visuals, and storytelling to explore the interconnectedness of nature, dreams, and ancestry. Composed and directed by South Florida based ensemble Our Human Years, (Nicolle Garcia, Dion Kerr, and Tim Watson), the music video recording of this new performance work is a kaleidoscopic celebration of South Florida’s rich cultural tapestry.

I, Me & Myself

Thursday, Sep 19, 2024 various times - Spanish

"I, Me & Myself" presents a selection of Andreina's work centered on the idea of identity construction through ready-made and collage techniques. It involves the subjective creation of identity by combining elements from the artist's family genealogy, art history, and popular culture. It serves as a brave and honest testimony, with Andreina presenting herself publicly, as reflected in the exhibition's name, "Me, Myself & I". The exhibition opens on July 13 at the Arts Connection Foundation gallery.

Curated by Gerardo Zavarce and Felix Suazo, the exhibition includes photographs, videos, objects, and printed materials. Zavarce, who has closely followed the artist's career, notes that this identity construction process has been one of evolution and transformation. "These characters contain references to one another, some obvious and others more subtle. They have traces like very subtle self-portraits, accompanied by stories and objects. It is the construction of a character and the variable construction of an identity, using collage critically, alongside ready-made." Zavarce explained, highlighting the critical dilemmas related to the fragility of roles and gender.
