That Oh Really?!'s Jason Odio and David Sinopoli know a thing or two about throwing a party should come as no shock to anyone familiar with their resumes. Jason's position...

Two by Two

GonzalezDanilo Gonzales2 Expressionists: visual thoughts of artists Horst Kohlem and Danilo Gonzalez collide in a most informative manner this month at the Art Place in Wynwood. (til June 1st).

Their paintings are remarkably synergistic, despite sensibilities born from dissimilar cultures.  Gonzales' Dominican Republic background belies his muted tonal works, while Kohlem exhibits a wide array of organic colors and shapes, though his thoughts were molded from the metaphoric springboard of a childhood in the...

The Wizard of Wynwood

By: Irene Sperber on .

sperber2 aa As he slowly pulls back the undulating silver curtain along an expanse of rear wall, a wizard’s laugh trickles from his lips. There in front of us hangs a floor to ceiling, wall to wall, homage to former nights and days of heady glamor. We have been allowed to glimpse the strings behind the magic of Valenti’s lifelong passion; a vast closet of quintessential moments captured by dress designer’s of yore, shimmering in a sea of sumptuous fabrics. Oooooooh......aaaaaahhhh! We are hooked.

Armed with a coterie of like-minded souls, my threesome made a necessary appointment to view this new addition to our city’s canvas. We made extra effort to make sure...

Spinello Projects

IMG 8478 ship      Spinello Projects moved to Wynwood Lofts for Anthony Spinello’s latest curatorial effort - the group show “Join,” featuring the work of George Sanchez-Calderon, Agustina Woodgate, Nicholas Arehart, Abby Double, Sinisa Kukec, Fedrico Nessi and Manny Prieres.

Dealing with the dynamics between positive and negative, artist and audience, object and gesture as well as the topics of erasure and resurrection “Join” is a rather dark journey with many imaginary and actual blank spaces. Erased features, erased political and geographical borders as well as the pages of “Lolita,” leave space for different stories to...

So. I am in the “other” borough of Miami at the moment, heretofore known as Manhattan. The planes traversing these two cities are jam-packed with your nearest and dearest since NYC/MIA have always been inexorably linked due to a pesky cold weather situation that has (this winter not included) perpetuated in the northeast.

Day one I de-planed out of LGA and into the International Center of Photography on 6th Avenue and 43rd Street. It houses a...
