Baby GirL opens at Empire Stage, This Little Jew Girl reading at GableStage, Young Artists' Performance, The Ahn Trio plays at the Coral Gables Congregational Church
New Play Opening
A World Premiere play, Baby GirL, a dramedy based on a true story written and directed by Kim Ehly, opens this weekend at Empire Stage in Ft. Lauderdale. The play tells the story of a woman, Ashley, who was conceived twice in one lifetime; once by lusty, passionate teenagers and then by conservative adoptive parents who eventually abhor everything about her life. Baby GirL is about Ashley’s coming out, and her journey to find love and a place to call home.

Free Play Reading at GableStage
A new play by Leah Kornfield Friedman and Paul Ben-Victor will be read on Monday, July 16th at GableStage featuring Florida favorite actors Laura Turnbull, Avi Hoffman, Betsy Graver and Todd Allen Durkin and introducing Arielle Hoffman and Paul Ben-Victor. The play, This Little Jew Girl, takes place in the 1940’s when a young girl is fighting for her life because her boss has turned his swimsuit showroom into a kind of brothel. Forced to hang onto the $28 per week job in order to survive, she heads to a police station. The free reading is at 7:30 PM. Young Artists’ Performance
Expressions Performing Arts, a summer camp for the performing arts will present its bi-weekly showcase of artistic dance emphasizing an anti-bullying message, on Thursday July 19, at 3:45 pm at Nautilus Middle School auditorium, 4301 N. Michigan Avenue in Miami Beach. Campers ages five through seventeen will participate as performers, costume creators and singers with original songs by Elias Hora, Jr. This show is free and open to the public. Expressions Performing Arts offers reasonably priced sessions weekdays throughout the summer from 9:30 AM to 4:00 PM with instruction in jazz, hip-hop, ballet, modern, acting, musical theatre, modeling and etiquette.

Chamber Music Concert
The Ahn Trio (cellist Maria, pianist Lucia, and violinist Angella), are presenting a concert sponsored by the Community Arts Program of the Congregational United Church of Christ, Coral Gables on Thursday evening, July 19th at 8:00 PM. Born in Seoul, Korea and educated at Julliard, the trio has been touring successfully for over ten years. The evening includes compositions by Pat Metheny, Brazilian composer Nelson Ayres and the New York Times “Composer to Watch,” Kenji Bunch.
